Employers violate the California Labor Code by failing to pay overtime wages owed, failing to provide meal and rest breaks, and failing to provide a safe working environment.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT
Sexual Harassment is found where (1) conduct is offensive and becomes a condition of continued employment, or (2) conduct is severe or pervasive enough to create a work environment that a reasonable person would consider intimidating, hostile, or abusive.
Wrongful Termination
When an employee is terminated for an illegal reason, including violations of federal or state anti-discrimination laws. An employee cannot be fired on the basis of his or her race, gender, ethnic background, disability, age, or religion.
Pregnancy DIscrimination
It is unlawful for an employer to discriminate against or terminate the employment of a pregnant employee on the basis of their pregnancy.
Equal PAY AND gender DISCRIMINATION
It is unlawful for employers to discriminate against employees based on their gender. When two employees have the same job title or position they must be paid the same salary or hourly wages. It is unlawful for employers to have gender based pay disparities.
OVERTIME AND UNPAID WAGES
Employers must pay overtime wages to employees who work over 8 hours a day or over 40 hours a week. Overtime wages owed must be calculated based not only on an employee’s hourly pay but also on additional compensation including non-discretionary bonuses and shift differential pay.
RACIAL DISCRIMINATION
It is unlawful for employers to discriminate against employees based on their race or national origin.
WHISTLEBLOWING
It is unlawful to be mistreated, demoted, or terminated from employment due to reporting illegal company activity.

Prior to attending law school, Garen earned his B.A. in Urban Studies and Planning from California State University, Northridge with summa cum laude honors.
